Payplan

Payplan has been helping people in debt since 1994. They're based in Lincolnshire, not a million miles from where Maggie Thatcher grew up and Payplan is currently one of the largest commercial debt help organisations in the UK. They are best known for their free debt management plans which is the reason they are featured on our homepage, despite not being a charity. They also offer advice on IVAs and bankruptcy. They claim to help, advise, support and provide solutions to more than 100,000 people for free, each and every year.

I've been with Payplan for nearly 3 years and they are a truly genuine and extremely helpful organisation. Payplan are also free - they do not charge fees for their services, which, after being a client of a fee-charging debt management company, it was a relief to realise I'd be paying my debt off in full several years quicker due to not paying fees to a third party. I agree with some of the other comments about difficulties contacting them - especially at busy periods - however, I disagree that the estimated debt remaining issue was never explained - Payplan are very honest about the fact that they cannot guarantee Interest and Charges being stopped - hence the reason for the estimated debt levels. They are a pragmatic company, have never been judgmental (which is a good thing in my case; my debt problems began as the result of a ridiculously and unecessarily expensive lifestyle), and have afforded me respect at times when I've had little for myself. So that's me - estimated to be debt free in another 3 years. Thank you Payplan - highly recommended!

I used this company to clear my debts and started under 5 yrs ago. I found the company to be a total waste of time, rude receptionists, kept being put on hold sometimes up to 10 minutes only to be cut off. when i asked for letters to be sent out with my balances on i would never get them,Plus even after i closed my account with them they still took money from my account and didnt even tell me. Another point was after being told by one of their staff information, another member of their team suggesged that was wrong and told me something completly different. DONT USE!!!!

Pay Plan are absolutely great. I have been with them for 2 years now and they have solved a lot of my debt questions, problems. They are friendly and really easy to deal with. It was really a breath of fresh air! As a single mum with 3 kids I must say if it was not for them, I don't know where I would be now. The debt is coming down, slowly a month at a time. Of course the Debt management is informal so creds were still harassing in the beguining, and in the beguning were adding interest , even though Pay Plan keeps asking them to stop! Most of them have though, now they are used to the plan. I see light at the end of the tunnel and would recomend them!!!

Churchwood are the company behind Crystal Debt Advisory (08448466519) or (0161 241 2080) Which cold call trying to solve your debts through an IVA etc, Do not give them any information. Not even your name when answering. They are a pest and will call you anytime day or night (really! oh yes they will ). The caller will have a very pronounced Asian accent and claim they are based in Leicester. As if !. Even if you are on the TPS and report them to Ofcom it will make no difference, In fact if you have no debts at all they still will try to sell you help with an IVA. They can be very rude and even use foul language at you if are not 'cooperative' with them as reported in many other complantaints. Avoid Churchwood and associated companies like the plaque. You have been warned.

I had been struggling with debt for about two years after my wife left me for a jamaican man. I had lots of credit card debt, and a massive overdraft. when i contacted money debt and credit, they were very informative and advised that i could benefit from a debt management programe. i didnt quite understand it at first, but the guy was really polite, and spent an hour explaining things ubtil i understood. i had to change my bank account which was a bit of a pain, but since then all my interest has been stopped, and my credit rating shows an arrangement to pay. i couldnt believe how it easy it was, and how nice the gentleman was, i dont know what service the other guys on this website had, but i would reccomend money debt and credit to anyone struggling with debt. 5 star service!

I totally agree with Mr Reynolds, I was with churchwood for 5 years and they said I would be debt free, after nearly 6 years I still have quite away to go. I was asking for balances from Jan 09 and it took various letters and telephone calls until I received my letter in Oct 09 only to be told I was another 3 years away from finishing the programme. Would not recommend to anybody that really wants to be debt free, I have been going it alone for 3 months now and I have mananged to pay off some of the debts and i'm better off each month!!

I had large debt (135,000) and was put on a CCCS debt management plan about three years ago. I have paid consistently, £90 a month, additionally paying off £35,000 worth of debt over the last 18 months. Last night I had a call from a callous woman in Leeds saying new policy dictated that I be thrown off the plan immediately as paying back the debt during my lifetime (i'm 60) wasn't viable. I own my own house which would adequately cover the debt (it's been on the market for two years) and also write for a living (unpredicatable, though potentially big money). I told the woman I needed a little more time (am determined to sell house as soon as possible) but she wouldn't speak to me as a human being, merely as a statistic that had to be got rid of according to new policy. I told this woman she was being highly unethical, not to mention inhumane, and she said no more discussion, my plan was closed. I asked her what I should do, knowing that after the years of false comfort i was being thrown to the wolves. She just said sell your house and pay your debts. I replied that I'd been trying to do precisely that but that it obviously wasn't quite the right time. This cold minion showed not an iota of human compassion. I'm a strong person and don't get easily frightened - but what about the truly vulnerable? Being unceremoniously thrown overboard during an illusory cruise isn't funny - and I fear for others. This behaviour on the part of the CCCS that I have just experienced first hand is not only despicable (but completely opposing their beliefs as posted on the web. I.E. 'No matter how serious our client's situation seems, we provide support and calming through empathy, understanding and emergency assistance - never being judgemental or apportioning blame'. And 'we always suggest appropriate solutions to our client's debt problems, recommending the best solution available'. And 'our advice is tailored to the circumstances of the individual or family, providing as much time as needed to help the individual ...' Short of a sharing of financial information I have experienced no communication with these people whatever. They know absolutely nothing about my life or me as a person. If they did they would know that my life's ethos is love - theirs appears to be the very opposite.

Well now a year on and paying £150 per month about £300 of my debt is clear, I hear nothing from them and when I call they are so rude and nasty to me, I have written 5 complaints to them and not received one response over 5 months - Dont go with them biggest mistake of my life!!

CCCS. My husband and I have struggled for the past 4 years to pay off a loan and credit card, we are both not working due to long term illness and I an registered disabled. I was told by my credit card company to ring CCCS, the best advise I have ever been given, what a weight of our shoulders. It was so simple, I had already done a budget sheet af all in and out goings + details of the 2 debt, it took about 30 mins to relay this over the phone to an extremely helpful chap and straight away he informed me that I could pay to CCCS almost a third of what I had been paying the creditors on the 1st of every month, they would split that whole amount proportionately between the creditors and pay them on the 25th of every month and it will take 6 years 11 months and we would be clear. They emailed the appropriate paper work and hand book to me, I read it, signed and sent back the form and requested proof of income, bank statement, direct debit form etc, sent the drafted letters to the creditors informing them of the switch over and thats it. No catch and no money grabbing behavior, every penny I pay goes to clearing the bills. CCCS are a charity and I believe the interest on the payment between !st and the 25th goes to the charity. Well! if that is all they take I firmly believe they are welcome to that for the swift, professional and reasuring way they have dealt with it. My greatest admiration to CCCS.
