Payplan

Payplan has been helping people in debt since 1994. They're based in Lincolnshire, not a million miles from where Maggie Thatcher grew up and Payplan is currently one of the largest commercial debt help organisations in the UK. They are best known for their free debt management plans which is the reason they are featured on our homepage, despite not being a charity. They also offer advice on IVAs and bankruptcy. They claim to help, advise, support and provide solutions to more than 100,000 people for free, each and every year.

Who would we advise you talk to before Payplan?

I have been with payplan for 18months now, and without there help we would have lost our family home and become bankrupt. At first we were in such a state that payplan could only offer advice on how to get our bills down, after I took those steps paypan have be behind us all the way. The phone lines are quite busy, but you can always email any queries which get dealt with quickly. And to top it all they are free.

Only been with Payplan a couple of months and found them to be terrific people to deal with at every level. I couldn't believe my luck when they worked out my plan. I had previously been with Debtmatters and then Harrington Brooks.....Nightmares, by the time they took their fees your my repayments to creditors were dramaticly reduced. To cap it all, there was no setup fee with Payplan. Advise anyone in severe debt to contact them.

I've been with Payplan for a number of years. It was a huge relief once I got into their plan and the letters and 'phonecalls from debtors just stopped (and they all agreed to stop charging interest!). I found it hard, at first, to get by with no credit but now I'm really good at managing my money and I'm even saving while Paying off my debts. I'd recommend Payplan to anyone with debt problems/worries. I owed over £45,000 and was at my wits end before I contacted them. (I really don't know what I'll do with the extra money each month when I finish paying everyone off next year, I just don't need it any more (what a change in my outlook!)

Have been with Payplan for approx 15 months. They are very reassuring and genuine. You need to be completely honest about all your debts and they set up an affordable repayment programme. All of the companies I owe money to have stopped the interest. Some will pass on to debt collectors but this is normal practice and is in fact a good thing. Any letters I get are immediately passed to Payplan for action. At least the debt is not getting any worse and in some cases, my credit file has improved (showing 0 instead of 8). Yes you will get defaults because you have defaulted on the original agreement with your creditors. However, should the creditors decide to take further action i.e CCJ, then they will have to produce the right paperwork and have issued the defaults correctly. I have not been threatened with CCJ because I have been proactive and agreed payments with all creditors. Payplan are always polite and reassuring. You can settle with any of your creditors at any time by negotiating as nothing is actually set in stone. After a while creditors/debt collectors will be willing to negotiate the debt with you. The main thing is to do something sooner than later. It is not an instance fix but will allow you time to sort yourself out at a difficult time such as now when jobs are few and far between and overtime is at an all time low. I would recommend anyone struggling to contact them asap. They have a system whereby you can keep track of all your payments at any time.

after husband losing his job we were absolutely in the myer we approached payplan advised by our bank rbs who are our worst creditors. payplan talked through everything set up a payment plan whichwe have kept and increased , some creditors are still applying interst and refuse to stop but i feel we are the ones responsible for the debt so i am very proactive in monitoring payments , dates etc payplan put everything in place so the debtors should stop moaning and do the work and monitoring themselves, i have never not been able to get through on phone within 15 minutes. total amount of debt owed at the end of every month is an estimate . i would recommend payplan to anyonw with debt who wants to sleep at night, but you should also not leave responsibility for your debt to payplan payments you should keep ahead of the game

I further would like to add that, I did contact Citizens' advice Bureau and I didn't like the way the woman lectured me as if I was a naughty school child. Pay Plan didn't lecture me or humiliated me for being in debt. They worked out my income and expenditure and contacted the lenders on my behalf. The lenders would not hear your plea, at least now, with the help of the Pay Plan Limited, I managed to get them to listen to me and accept reduced monthly repayments towards my debt. I am not likely to recover from my ill health and my pension is not going to increase. Last week I received a letter from the Inland Revenue stating that they have used the incorrect Tax Code and I owe them £380.00 tax and asked me to pay it all back. They also gave me a new tax code and reduced my pension by £27.00 a month. Just before Christmas, we always get bills, charges, rising taxes. No wonder I feel sick. I would recommend the Pay Plan Limited for anyone. I can see for myself where my money goes.
